Spanish for Educators is a course designed to meet the communication needs of educators, and other school personnel, who need to interact with non-English speaking students and their families in the context of school situations.
Melissa W- This was really hard and very fast. I understood very little but here is what I got from the weather report. sol-sunny, muy-very, lluvia-rain, tarde-afternoon, promedio-prediction/forecast??, observado-what the temperature is/was, 0.15 inches of Lluvia(rain) is predicted, we saw the atlantic satelite and in the tarde they were watching a tropical depression, calor-hot, Domingo/Sunday was going to be hot/calor and humid, some type of rain/Lluvia and problems in manana/tomorrow. The forecast for the week- Domingo 90, Lunes 88, Martes 89, Miercoles is 89 something with a tropical depression, Jueves is 91,Viernes 90, Sabado 90. It went on to predict the highs of manana, Domingo. I tried my best here. I listened several times and stopped and started this several times.
This is a forecast on Saturday night when the temperature is 79 degrees. There is a cyclone coming from the Atlantic region going towards Puerto Rico's north and central region on Sunday and Monday. It will be hot and humid with rain on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain about2-4"in the Carribean Islands. Tropical Cyclone will affect the northern portion of Hispaniola and then move towards mainland. Probable impact on Aquidilla, San Juan,Mayaguez, ponce and Ceiba. The forecast for the coming week was given with high temperatures and rain in the beginning of the week. The Spanish numbers were easy to understand.
This felt next to impossible for me. I felt very frustrated and no matter how many times I listened there were only a couple words I could pick up. It sounded like she said tornodo, which I am guessing is a tornado. I also heard her say manana several times so I knew she was referring to tomorrow. I understood Miercoles- 89/Wednesday. I also thought I heard something that resembled tropical. She shared the records of that day. I also heard that on Domingo -Sunday, it was Calo-hot. I listened several times, I am not picking all of this up very quickly.
I agree with my classmates in that the forecast was very fast and hard to understand. I did hear that, on Saturday will be sunny with a high of 89 degrees and a low of 78 degrees with possibility .15 inches of rain. Overnight should be partially cloudy with chance of rain. It sounds like there is a tropical storm approaching in the Atlantic. Sunday will be hot and humid with a chance of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms. She then talks about the extended forecast for the week, and looks like a majority of the weeks appears hot with a chance of rain.
On Saturday, it will be sunny with a high of 89 degrees, a low of 78 degrees and possibly .15 inches of rain. In the evening, it will be partially cloudy, maybe a little rain and 79 degrees. There will be a tropical storm approaching in the Atlantic. On Sunday, it will hot and humid. There will be a chance of heavy rain and isolated thunder storms. She tells us about the extended forecast for the week and most days will be hot with chances of rain.
The forecast is for some rain, partly cloudy, hot and humid. There's a tropical storm north of the island, she talks about where the impact of the storms may be. I listened several times and this is my best educated guess - it was hard to understand since she speaks so fast!
I had to pause and unpause the video a million times, but here are some expressions/pieces of info I picked up on.
En Sur De la Isla, Sabado condiciones: Hace sol, poco actividad lluvia. En la tarde en sectoras de Puerto Rico, hace tornados. (Saturday conditions for Sur de la isla and other places nearby will have sun and a little rain activity. In the afternoon, sections will have tornadoes)
Otros portiones de la isla y pueblos norte y central: tornada forte, lluvia temprano en el noche (Other portions of area and cities to the north and central will have strong tornadoes, and rain early in the night)
I was able to understand the days of the week, and it was easy for me to pick up on the numbers she was saying. It seems that there is a storm coming, and that many cities in Puerto Rico will be affected by it. I could pick up on certain words I recognized like: north, very, sunny, bueno, tambien, noche, para, and a few others. Most of this was hard for me to translate 'word for word,' but I understand the gist of the video.
It's hot and humid on the island. There seems to be a tropical storm and it's bringing some storms across the north and eastern part of the island. Temperatures during the day seem to be in the high 80's to mid 90's across the island.
My greatest take away from this assignment is.... the ability to learn a language through listening requires a great deal of practice. Repetition and intentional listening are paramount.
I made two attempts to interpret the speaker. On my first attempt, I simply listened to the forecast. I was able to recognize several - isolated, words ( days of the week, sunny, good, storm moving north). On my second attempt, I listened and watched. With the help of the visuals, comprehension became a little clearer. Through both experiences, my greatest challenge was how fast the speaker spoke.
Even though she speaks quickly, she is very clear and sharp. This is what I go from her forecast: hot, island, north, tropical storm, sunny, rain, days of the week, weekend, storm, temperatures, numbers, miles, and greetings when we start and exit the forecast. - Traci M
This forecaster talks fast. Wow! I heard the word Tambien a lot which makes me think it will also be the same weather again or in addition to the sun, there will also be clouds. I heard la noche and activad which would be activity at night. I assume some rain. Then norbe and something where north and south were mentioned. Pacifica and cinco were also words I recognized referring to the date. The pictures led me to believe it will be mostly sunny with a chance of clouds.
Holy cow! She talks very fast and I did not understand as much as I would've liked. From what I could gather from the video it is hot, island, rain, sunny. She did mention days of the week and temperatures. There's a storm coming and she did greet us at the start of the video.
It was difficult for me to really understand what the meterologist was saying because she spoke so quickly for me. The pictures and words helped me to better understand the weather, but I can't necessarily express my thoughts in Spanish. :)
It was difficult to understand much of what the meteorologist shared in the video because she was speaking very quickly. Ella dice si hay un posibilidad to tornados fuertes. Ella tambien mencionado si hay poco actividad lluvia de corta duracion . Manana staran humidad y calor, desarrollos aguacerros y tronadas aisladas.
The meteorologist expressed that early morning it rained. At 6:45pm there were floods from the rain storm. The northern part was hit with a horrible rain storm. In San Juan, tomorrow there will be a tropical storm with unstable winds.
